15th Street Reconstruction

Fifteenth Street is located in one of Denver’s oldest neighborhoods. Heavy traffic courses through this historic downtown area which is populated with flourishing retail stores, restaurants, and urban communities. The high volume of traffic caused damage to 15th Street, from South Platte River Bridge to Boulder Street.

Table Mesa Park-n-Ride Pedestrian Bridge

A pedestrian bridge over US-36 was constructed to develop passenger access from the existing parking structure to a bus pullout adjacent to the eastbound on-ramp from Table Mesa Drive to US-36. As part of this project, vertical circulation, in the form of elevators and stairs, was included at the parking structure and the bus pickup side. The structure type is a single-span, fabricator-engineered, steel truss bridge. The substructures consist of reinforced concrete piers supported on concrete shafts drilled into bedrock.

Plum Creek Parkway Bridge Widening

Huitt-Zollars developed design and construction contract and right-of-way acquisition documents for the widening of a three-span, precast concrete twin tee girder structure over the Union Pacific Railroad (UPRR), including widening of approximately 1,500 linear feet of approach roadway. The work involved public involvement, structure design, concrete pavement, curb and gutter, concrete sidewalk, storm sewer, utility improvements, construction phasing, construction and permanent signing and striping, landscape concept development, and environmental clearances.

International Bridge, Vail, Colorado

The International Bridge is located in the center of Vail, Colorado. Aesthetics played a major role in the design of this spread box girder structure. The true superstructure of the bridge is hidden behind pre-cast spandrel panels mounted on the outside girders and faced with stone. The primary use of this bridge is pedestrian traffic, however, it is a fully-rated, HS-20 vehicular bridge and used for deliveries, emergency vehicles, and other maintenance purposes. During the winter season the bridge is the site of many skiing competition award ceremonies.

Miller Street Bridge Rehabilitation

Huitt-Zollars developed construction contract documents for rehabilitating an existing two-span box culvert bridge over Ralston Creek. The project included preparation of construction contract documents including structure plans, demolition plans, aesthetic bridge rail design, pavement replacement, curb and gutter, sidewalks, retaining walls, utility coordination, traffic control plan, erosion control plan, and obtaining a Nationwide 404 permit.

Harmony Road Bridge

Huitt-Zollars, as the bridge consultant, prepared construction documents for a new bridge over the Cache La Poudre River to accommodate the widening Harmony Road from two lanes to four lanes between the I-25 East Frontage Road and County Road 5. Huitt-Zollars prepared studies to determine the most feasible alternative for the new structure. The new bridge was required to be of constant width, on tangent alignment, and with no skew. Construction traffic control was required to complete the work in no greater than two phases.
