Southern Boulevard Reconstruction

The project purpose involved eliminating cut-through traffic traveling to and from three significant destinations within an area of approximately 1.02 miles. The project improves motoring safety along the Southern Boulevard corridor between Juan Tabo and Eubank Boulevards by addressing speeding, illegal U-turns, heavy congestion during peak periods, and parking in the median. The project involved shifting the eastbound lane of Southern Boulevard north, reducing the median to 34 feet, and the addition of three signalized intersections. Depressing the medians provided curb openings that provide adequate capacity to effectively store the 100-year six-hour storm event.
