Huitt-Zollars designed more than 20,000 linear feet of 48-inch water main. The project was located in the middle of a six-lane, divided thoroughfare. Primary concerns involved minimizing the project impact to existing utilities, traffic, adjacent residents and businesses, while protecting all large trees. The scope of work included boring under a railroad, two creeks, and one congested intersection. A plan was prepared to deal with contaminated soils discovered during project design. This project was expected to take up to a year; however the design was completed in six weeks and construction completed eight months later.
