Wind and Blast Load Simulator, Waterways Experiment Station

Huitt-Zollars was contracted by ABS Consulting to provide programming and design and construction documentation services for the purpose of defining the Wind and Blast Load Simulator (WBLS) enclosure and site requirements for ABS with the Structures and Mechanics Division (SMD) at the Waterways Experiment Station (WES). The WBLS is capable of subjecting targets to dynamic loads representative of blast waves. Two WBLS devices were designed a small-scale BLS and a full-scale BLS.

Commissary/Exchange Design-Build

Huitt-Zollars provided survey, civil engineering, and structural engineering design and construction support services to the design-build team of Komatsu Architecture, Inc. and Caddell Construction Company. The design included a full-size Commissary and Exchange, as well as, a shopping mall, food court, and outdoor covered area totaling of 282,932 SF. The 35-acre site was raised eight feet and required utility relocations, roadway improvements and new paving and drainage.
