Building 4845 is a 228,600-square-foot, five-compartment warehouse constructed at Barksdale Air Force Base Louisiana in 1952. The Design/Build project involved major renovation and upgrades to provide space for Logistics Readiness Support (LRS) and the second Civil Engineering Squadron Shops.
Huitt-Zollars provided complete architectural and engineering design services for the repair of elements in the 30-year-old building. The replacement of critical but antiquated mechanical and electrical operating systems drove the project, coupled with a desire to dramatically decrease energy consumption. Elevators underwent modification for code and ADA requirements. The fire alarm system was replaced by a new Class A system, which meets ADA and Life Safety Code requirements. Air handling units were replaced with new VAV boxes and ductwork.
