Lake Tapps County Park

Huitt-Zollars prepared master plan refinement, plans, specifications, and permit applications for the expansion of Lake Tapps County Park. A special challenge addressed shoreline erosion that reduced the usable size of recreation areas, and threatened the longevity of existing dikes. The work plan included participation by County staff, federal, state and local agencies, and Puget Sound Energy.

I-405 South Bellevue Widening

Huitt-Zollars completed drainage and landscape designs to widen four miles of interstate freeway in a congested urban area, through this $124 million design-build project. The drainage system included five wetland facilities along with water quality media filtration embankments and a water quality monitoring basin. Improvements included stormwater drainage and control structures, rehabilitation of culverts and pipes, water quality monitoring facilities, slope drainage behind retaining walls, and a new 2.5-acre off-site wetland mitigation site. Roadway restoration plans were prepared.

Meridian Campus

Huitt-Zollars provided management and design services for all development phases of this 1,150 acre mixed use development.  Huitt-Zollars prepared the master plan and backbone infrastructure system with the capability of adapting to changes in project requirements without reconstructing existing systems.  Additional responsibilities included project management, EIS and SEPA preparation, engineering, design and implementation of the final design, land planning, permitting, construction of the master plan, landscape architecture, construction administration, survey, construction staking for r

Tacoma Triangle Townhomes

Huitt-Zollars provided engineering and infrastructure design for this urban revitalization in downtown Tacoma.  The 26-unit subdivision was composed of spare design, sustainable features, splashy colors, and the unique inclusion of “woonerf” (i.e. “street for living.”). “Woonerf” provides common space shared by pedestrians, bicyclists, and low-speed motor vehicles. Huitt-Zollars incorporated wayfinding signage to delineate the “woonerf” designation at each street entrance. Huitt Zollars’ sustainable design captured rainwater for a decorative feature and landscape irrigation.

Sea-Tac International Airport Expressway Widening and LRT Extension

Huitt-Zollars served as the prime consultant to conduct planning, environmental clearance, and final design for improvements to the primary airport terminal access highway. The project was conducted to mitigate existing traffic congestion, accommodate the anticipated 45 million annual passengers, and incorporate the regional light rail transit system within the freeway corridor. The project includes freeway widening, a new return loop ramp, interchange modernization, and the at-grade rail transit system.
