Hilton Palm Island Hotel

The firm provided conceptual architectural, interior, landscape, and graphic design services for this new five-star luxury hotel with 500 keys and 100 luxury extended-stay suites to be located at the “trunk” of Palm Island, Dubai. Amenities envisioned for this full-service destination hotel includes two specialty restaurants, a lobby lounge sports bar, outdoor al fresco dining with a high-energy night club and lanai beach front restaurant. The design centerpiece is an 18-story floating screen wall that “veils” glass bridges to frame views of the Gulf.

Floating Villas

The floating villas were designed to be anchored near the Australia island in the man-made “World Islands” in Dubai. A series of 12-unit single residence luxury villas would be tethered to triangular mooring stations with boat slips to form a floating village. The units may only be accessed via boat from the Dubai shoreline. Each villa was designed to be as self-sufficient as possible with its own desalination unit and composting unit. Electric power would be provided by an underwater electric cable from the mainland, plus a diesel-powered emergency electric generator.

Jiading District Master Plan

This energetic mixed-use master plan is a 940-acre satellite city of Shanghai, China that has been envisioned as the new central focus of the Jiading District, which consists of the Jiading Old Town, Anting, and NanXiang townships. The design’s purpose is to create a vibrant town center with a connection to the Shanghai Circuit Formula 1 track, an important entertainment destination. The central park, an entertainment and residential district, is the main focus dominated by taller modern buildings of the Central Business District, a financial and business area.

Tianjin Airport Industrial Park Central Business District

Located near the Tianjin International Airport, this 16-hectare mixed-use commercial district features office, retail, restaurants, and commercial spaces, two hotels, and Green Roof park spaces over the garage. All parking is accommodated in an underground garage that required the excavation of the entire site. Site circulation is restricted to pedestrians; the only vehicular access allowed is for emergency vehicles. A water feature and “red ribbon” pathway inspired by the traditional Chinese “Ribbon Dance” activates the park space.

Tianjin Aviation City

This 16-hectare master plan is the Central Commercial District to the Airport Free Trade Zone. It features 197,000-square-miles of international Class 5A offices, 21,500-square-miles of above-grade retail and restaurant with a wavy green roof, 36,000-square-miles of above-grade retail and a restaurant with a green roof park, 88,000-square-miles of commercial serviced apartments, and a 76,000-square-miles park and connection to the lakefront.

TEXRail Mahaffey Maintenance Facility

The TEXRail project is a 27.2-mile commuter rail system that will run between downtown Fort Worth and the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, and will be operated by the Fort Worth Transportation Authority. Huitt-Zollars is the Project Manager and Engineer-of-Record providing design and construction support services for the 48,000-square-foot vehicle Equipment Maintenance Facility (EMF). The EMF is located on a 22-acre site and will service, maintain, fuel, and store the eight Stadler Flirt Diesel Motorized Units (DMUs) that will operate on this line.

Weir SPM R&D Facility

Weir SPM manufactures reciprocating plunger pumps used in hydraulic fracturing for the oil and gas industry, along with other essential ancillary upstream and downstream equipment. The Research and Development (R&D) facility tests prototype frac pumps at operating conditions ranging from real-life to extreme such as high fluid pressures, high temperatures, and with various additives and contaminants. Huitt-Zollars provided architectural and engineering services to create the Weir SPM R&D Facility.

Vought Aircraft Manufacturing

Huitt-Zollars provided a variety of structural, electrical, and mechanical engineering services to support the client’s manufacturing capability. Design services incorporated HVAC solutions for humidifier operation, specifically addressing the challenges related to the location and identification of steam condensation. Huitt-Zollars executed plumbing and piping revisions to meet code compliance, and relocated existing equipment within the new 50,000-SF manufacturing facility. The project scope required the removal of all utility sources from the facility.

Building 8 & Dynamic Component Rebuild Facility

Corpus Christi Army Depot (CCAD) is a high security center of industrial excellence for rotary wing aircraft. It is the largest helicopter repair facility in the world. It serves as a rebuild facility for the entire airframe, but parts of the facility were decades old and created operational inefficiencies for the maintenance staff. Project scope of this task comprised facility and site master planning to include space planning, programming, equipment needs identification and sequence of acquisition of equipment, overall project definition and funding/construction sequencing alternatives.

FedEx Southwest Distribution Hub

Huitt-Zollars provided master planning, all civil, structural, and MEP engineering design, construction drawings and specifications along with land surveying services for FedEx’s 168-acre Southwest Distribution Hub. The site contains multiple buildings that comprise more than one million SF. Civil/site services included aircraft, truck and employee parking facilities; site grading; utilities; storm drainage; NPDES Pollution Prevention Plan preparation and permitting; circulation and staging accommodations; plus gas line, domestic water and fire water distribution lines.
