Sesquicentennial Park

Huitt-Zollars performed design and construction phase architectural and engineering services for Phase 2B of this historically significant project. Construction began in 1986, the Sesquicentennial (150 years) after the defeat of Santa Ana by General Sam Houston. Work included design of structural walls, observation of architectural masonry walls, reconstruction of the Congress Street bridge and architectural traffic railing, steel sheet piling, and concrete retaining walls; amphitheater, architectural, and engineering design of field modifications; agency coordination; and review of technical submittals. Construction included foundations for pylons commemorating the major industries that contributed to the City’s growth. Each pylon displays art drawn by children born in 1986, the Sesquicentennial.
