
Clay Barnett, PE, CFM, is a Vice President and Managing Principal of the Sherman office at Huitt-Zollars. With over 25 years of experience in transportation and civil engineering across North Texas, Clay leads the Sherman office in delivering infrastructure solutions for local governments in the region. His role focuses on business development and project management, particularly in support of transportation and public works initiatives.
Clay’s career spans a wide range of technical and leadership roles, including Director of Public Works and Engineering for the City of Sherman, Director of Development Services, County Engineer for Grayson County, and Director of the Grayson County Metropolitan Planning Organization. His expertise includes environmental code compliance, street maintenance, traffic operations, park and airport construction, fleet and solid waste management, and drainage systems.
He has managed major projects such as the redevelopment of Vitruvian Park in Addison, the Frisco Square and Villages at Fairview and Allen mixed-use developments, and infrastructure improvements at Sherman Municipal and Addison Airports. Clay is known for his ability to engage with local officials and the public to craft tailored solutions to complex transportation challenges.
Clay holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Texas A&M University and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Texas at Dallas. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in Texas and a Certified Floodplain Manager.
A dedicated member of the engineering community, Clay currently serves as Region V Vice President and Legislative and Governmental Affairs Chair for the Texas Society of Professional Engineers and has held several leadership roles within the organization. His accolades include the Distinguished Engineer of the Foundation award from the Texas Engineering Foundation (2021) and the Excellence Award from the Texas Society of Professional Engineers (2014).
