
David J. Thompson, PE, is a Vice President and Principal in Huitt-Zollars’ Dallas office with over a decade of experience in structural engineering. He specializes in the analysis, design, and detailing of complex bridge structures and retaining walls for major transportation infrastructure projects across Texas.
David has served as Engineer of Record and Lead Structural Engineer on high-profile projects including the IH 345 Bridge Rehabilitation, the Margaret McDermott Pedestrian Bridge, and the IH 35 at US 183 Direct Connectors. His expertise spans prestressed concrete and steel girder bridges, fracture-critical structures, and advanced finite element modeling for fatigue and retrofit analysis. He has also led the design of MSE, soil nail, and cantilever retaining walls, and has provided technical review and construction support for design-build and rehabilitation projects.
He holds a Master of Science in Civil Engineering (Structures) from the University of Minnesota Twin Cities and dual Bachelor of Science degrees in Civil Engineering and Mathematics from Southern Methodist University. David is a licensed Professional Engineer in Texas and an active member of the Texas Society of Professional Engineers and the American Institute of Steel Construction.
