Joel Colwell, AIA, is a seasoned architect with over 30 years of experience, specializing in healthcare design and project leadership. As Vice President and Principal at our Downtown Houston office, Joel brings a deep commitment to client satisfaction, technical excellence, and innovative healthcare solutions.

Throughout his career, Joel has led the successful delivery of complex healthcare projects across the country, including large-scale hospital expansions, outpatient facilities, and long-term master plans. His background includes a decade as a Design and Construction Manager for an acute care hospital in New Orleans, giving him a unique owner’s perspective that enhances his ability to deliver projects that are both visionary and practical.

Joel’s portfolio features high-profile projects such as the Houston Methodist Hospital Walter Tower and the Stamford Hospital Expansion. His leadership emphasizes collaboration, budget and schedule adherence, and a deep understanding of healthcare environments.

He holds a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from Louisiana State University and is a registered architect in Texas, Louisiana, Connecticut, Florida, and Washington, D.C. Joel is a member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA), the American Society of Healthcare Engineers (ASHE), and a Fellow of the Health Facilities Institute (FHFI).
