Huitt-Zollars welcomes Nicholas L. Kohel, P.E., as a Vice President in our Dallas, TX, office. Nicholas (Nick) will play a key role in advancing our Public Works practice in the DFW region, partnering with other PW Principals to drive business development, support project delivery, and provide oversight for multidisciplinary teams. He will work closely with staff, clients, and stakeholders to deliver high-quality infrastructure civil engineering solutions and drive regional growth across our public works portfolio.

Nick brings more than two decades of experience in civil engineering, municipal leadership, and capital project delivery. His background includes directing large-scale capital improvement programs and overseeing complex public works projects. His expertise spans strategic planning, contract management, budget development, and stakeholder engagement.

Nick has led teams in the execution of roadway and utility infrastructure, CMOM (Capacity, Management, Operations, and Maintenance) programs, and voter-approved bond initiatives. He has managed teams of engineers, inspectors, and administrative staff, and has coordinated with elected officials, city management, and community partners to achieve project success.

Nick is a licensed Professional Engineer in Texas and holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. He has received industry recognition, including TSPE (Texas Society of Professional Engineers) Central Texas Chapter Young Engineer of the Year and Engineer of the Year awards. He has served as President of ASCE (American Society of Civil Engineers) Central Texas Branch, as well as served on the Texas State Committee for TSPE’s Math Counts.
