Congratulations to King County Department of Natural Resources and Parks and the Design and Construction Teams for being honored with an APWA Washington 2025 Public Works Project of the Year Award in the Transportation $5-25M category for the Foothills Trail Phase II project.

This 1.2-mile segment serves as a critical link between King and Pierce Counties regional trail systems and the cities of Enumclaw and Buckley—completing a long-anticipated connection for pedestrians, cyclists, and emergency responders. Huitt-Zollars served as prime design consultant for this transformational project.

A major highlight is the construction of a 570-foot, three-span weathered steel network arch bridge over the White River. Historic SR-410 bridge foundations were repurposed and retrofitted, minimizing environmental impact and maximizing structural efficiency. The White River Bridge now serves as both an iconic destination and a vital safety corridor.

The project also restored the historic Boise Creek Arch Bridge for trail use and revitalized local ecosystems through habitat restoration and natural riverbank protection.

This award is a testament to the power of regional collaboration, sustainable infrastructure, and community-focused design. Congratulations to all involved!
