The McLean Laboratory and Optical Test Laboratory at NAWS China Lake are mission-critical facilities that sustained significant structural and systems damage during the 2019 M7.1 Ridgecrest earthquake. Located just 9 miles from the epicenter, both facilities required extensive repairs to restore pre-earthquake operational efficiency.
As Designer of Record, our team led the renovation and repair effort, which included damage assessments of roofing, walls, slabs, HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and interior systems. The project also involved seismic analysis and structural retrofitting of foundations, columns, beams, and precast concrete walls. A phased construction plan was developed to maintain continuous operations within the occupied SCIF laboratories, ensuring uninterrupted mission support.
