Dallas County, the City of Dallas, Park Foundation, and the Texas Department of Transportation approached Huitt-Zollars to design one of the final sections of a hike and bike trail system connecting Hamilton Park to a section of trail adjacent to the ‘High-Five’ interchange of LBJ Freeway and US 75. The design incorporated a 12-foot-wide concrete trail along the banks of Cottonwood Creek. An esplanade or multi-use plaza was created on both sides of the creek and adjacent to the trail to allow for special events, resting and gathering areas for trail users. Huitt-Zollars designed the circular open spaces that are pierced by the 12-foot-wide trail.
