The Gila Bend Auxiliary Field Runway, located near the Goldwater Bombing Range south of Gila Bend, Arizona, functions as an emergency landing option for military aircraft. Huitt-Zollars was part of a Design-Build team and designed the new runway. The project scope included the construction of a new 1,000-linear-foot concrete touchdown area at both runway ends, mill and overlay for the remaining asphalt pavement, and construction of asphalt shoulders along the new runway pavement. The total runway is 8,500 linear feet. The new runway surface was striped and marked using current Air Force marking standards for runways. Aircraft arresting gears were also installed at both runway ends.
