This project involved the 100% design of repairs for the Small Arms Firing Range (Building 706) at Kirtland Air Force Base, New Mexico, incorporating Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC) and Unified Facilities Guide Specifications (UFGS). The facility includes 21 firing lanes and a bullet trap and retrieval system (BTRS), which had deteriorated due to metal fatigue, cracked steel plates, and buildup of frangible ammunition debris. Our team designed a replacement BTRS featuring a new integral steel structure on concrete foundations, a metal roof for equipment protection, a redesigned trench drain, and a Dust Collection Unit (DCU). An exterior-mounted vacuum system was also included to facilitate user maintenance and cleaning of the trap and trench areas.
