The Gila Bend Auxiliary Airfield is located near the Goldwater Bombing Range south of Gila Bend Arizona, and is an auxiliary field for military aircraft that may be experiencing an emergency. Huitt-Zollars was part of a Design/Build team, and designed the new runway. The project scope included constructing a new 1,000-foot-long concrete touchdown areas at each end of the existing 8,500-foot runway, mill and overlay the remaining asphalt pavement and construct asphalt shoulders along the new runway pavement. The new runway surface was striped and marked using current Air Force marking standards for runways.
