The Sculpture Garden is a popular, make-shift trail head near Lakeway City Hall. However, trail users were having to use an existing concrete encased wastewater line in order to cross Hurst Creek. The concrete encased wastewater line is very narrow and unsafe, and obviously was not meant to serve as a pedestrian crossing. Therefore, the City of Lakeway selected Huitt-Zollars to perform a preliminary engineering study and final design of an 8’ wide pedestrian bridge in addition to a new 8’ concrete sidewalk trail to replace the existing primitive trail. The pedestrian bridge is located over and within the floodplain of Hurst Creek, and therefore, there no rise in the floodplain is allowed.
Huitt-Zollars provided full preliminary engineering and final design of the new 8’ wide pedestrian bridge and new 8’ concrete sidewalk trail. Services included: drainage study, design, and analysis; floodplain modeling and analysis to ensure no rise in the floodplain; drainage inlet and storm sewer to capture and convey existing offsite drainage; landscape design; paving and grading improvements; bid phase and construction phase services.
