Huitt-Zollars developed construction documents to reconfigure approximately two miles of SR-87 from a four-lane undivided segment to a four-lane divided highway, the only undivided portion of the 80-mile highway. The project is characterized as a grade, drain and pavement project, requiring the construction of a new divided roadway, extension of existing CMPs and box culverts, pavement preservation, safety and drainage improvements, and native plant salvaging and seeding. The design schedule was compressed from the typical 18 months to fast-paced 6 months in order for the construction schedule to be met.
